HoopStars | Parent-company Marketing Team Lead
Full-time. Remote from LATAM. Toronto working hours. Potential future relocation to the US or Canada by mutual agreement.
Build the business. Build the marketing team.
HoopStars is a Toronto-based youth basketball business with recurring customers and technology-enabled operations. We are looking for a hands-on General Manager whose strongest skills are marketing, ecommerce and profitable growth, and who can take responsibility for the whole business.
You will divide your time approximately equally between running HoopStars and building and managing the parent company Community Sports Partners' marketing team across its brands. This is one vacancy advertised across multiple locations. Candidates elsewhere in LATAM are also welcome; apply once using your preferred location listing.
You should understand how to turn advertising into customers, improve conversion, increase repeat purchases and make the numbers work. You will also own budgets, operating performance and the team delivering the customer experience.
What you will own
•
Run HoopStars: Own its business plan, budget, revenue, profitability and cash forecasts. Lead sales and operations, ensuring programmes, coaches, venues and service quality keep pace with demand.
•
Drive digital growth: Improve paid search and social, creative, landing pages, enrollment funnels, pricing, offers, referrals and retention.
•
Build the parent marketing team: Define the structure, recruit specialists, appoint contractors or agencies where useful, and manage priorities and performance across brands.
•
Establish commercial discipline: Connect campaign performance to paying customers, repeat enrollment and contribution profit. Allocate marketing investment using reliable reporting and testing.
•
Stay close to execution: Inspect advertising accounts, diagnose funnel problems and help launch improvements yourself while building a team that can execute consistently.
Support and autonomy
The parent provides bookkeeping assistance, HR support, IT and website support, and a local manager covering customer service and day-to-day sales. You will propose budgets and team plans, then make operating decisions within agreed authority. After onboarding, the founder expects a monthly business review, supported by clear weekly reporting and escalation of exceptional issues.
Your first 90 days
Understand the customers, operations and economics. Audit marketing across the brands. Establish reporting, propose the marketing team structure and hiring priorities, launch the first growth tests, and take ownership of normal HoopStars business decisions.
Requirements
Who we are looking for
You may have built an ecommerce business, led growth for a consumer brand, run a digital agency with meaningful operating responsibility, or managed a business where digital acquisition was central to its success.
• Demonstrated results in paid acquisition, conversion and retention.
• Commercial responsibility beyond a marketing budget: pricing, margins, staffing, forecasts or business profitability.
• Experience hiring and managing marketers, creatives, agencies or other specialists.
• Ability to translate ecommerce methods into a service business with real delivery capacity and customer commitments.
• Comfort doing practical work while developing people and systems.
• Strong professional English and effective remote leadership.
Experience in youth sports, education, fitness, memberships or multi-location services is useful. Evidence of building a profitable business and an effective team matters most.
How to apply
Submit your CV through this application form. Describe a business or brand you grew, including spend, results and your personal contribution; a team you built or managed; and a commercial decision that failed and what you changed afterward.
Complete both standard assessments before or shortly after applying, using the same email address as your application. If you have already completed them for Community Sports Partners using that email, indicate this in the form.
• Culture Index survey
• Criteria GAME assessment - English
Benefits
Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Remote work from LATAM, with Toronto-hours collaboration. Opportunity to build and lead a business and the parent marketing team, with equity opportunity subject to agreed terms. Potential future relocation to the US or Canada by mutual agreement.
