Job Summary
We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Vice President (VP) of Java Engineering to lead the architecture, design, and development of our next-generation Order Management Systems (OMS) and Electronic Trading Platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
•
System Design: Architect, design, and implement distributed, highly scalable, and fault-tolerant Java applications for complex order routing, execution, and position management.
•
Performance Optimization: Drive continuous latency reduction, memory management tuning, and performance optimization across the entire trading infrastructure.
•
Modernization: Evaluate legacy OMS components and spearhead migration paths to modern event-driven architectures and microservices.
Team Management & Delivery
•
People Leadership: Mentor, coach, and manage a distributed team of senior Java developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and agile delivery.
•
Execution: Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring timely delivery of high-quality code that complies with rigorous regulatory and security standards.
•
Code Quality: Enforce best practices in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (unit, integration, and performance), and comprehensive code reviews.
Business Alignment & Collaboration
•
Stakeholder Management: Partner with front-office business stakeholders, including Traders, Quants, Risk Management, and Compliance teams, to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
•
Vendor Integration: Oversee integration with internal and external entities, including market data feeds, exchange connectivity (FIX protocol), and third-party OMS/EMS vendors.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Technical Expertise
•
Core Java Mastery: Extensive production experience with Core Java (Java 17/21 preferred), focusing on multi-threading, concurrency, low-garbage-collection idioms, and memory modeling.
•
Trading Expertise: Proven track record working directly on Order Management Systems (OMS), Execution Management Systems (EMS), or algorithmic trading platforms.
•
Protocols & Data: Deep understanding of the FIX Protocol (Financial Information eXchange) and market data processing.
•
Architecture Patterns: Strong expertise in event-driven architecture, messaging middleware (e.g., Kafka, Solace, RabbitMQ), and low-latency frameworks (e.g., LMAX Disruptor).
•
Data Tier: Experience with high-performance databases (e.g., NoSQL, time-series databases like KDB+/TimescaleDB, or highly optimized relational databases).
Leadership & Domain Knowledge
•
Experience: 10+ years1 of software engineering experience in capital markets, investment banking, or fintech, with at least 3+ years in a team lead or management capacity.
•
Financial Domain: Strong understanding of financial instruments (Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, or FX) and market structures (order books, matching engines, compliance checking).
•
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
