What this role officially is
data scientist — ESCO, the EU occupation classification
Data scientists find and interpret rich data sources, manage large amounts of data, merge data sources, ensure consistency of data-sets, and create visualisations to aid in understanding data. They build mathematical models using data, present and communicate data insights and findings to specialists and scientists in their team and if required, to a non-expert audience, and recommend ways to apply the data.
Also known as: data scientists, data engineer, research data scientist, data expert, data research scientist

About CircuitHub
CircuitHub is reshaping electronics manufacturing with The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform that makes small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly radically more efficient. Think semiconductor-fab precision applied to the chaotic world of prototyping and low-volume production: a 10x throughput improvement in one of the world's most foundational industries.
We've raised $45M from top-tier investors including Plural, Y Combinator and Google Ventures, and we're already profitable. Our customers include a major EV maker, a top AI lab and many of the worlds largest companies.
The Grid isn't a prototype. It's live, scaling fast and delivering real revenue, and we're building the team that will scale it further.
What you'll do
CircuitHub builds circuit boards on demand, every order different. Each day thousands of decisions are made: which orders run on which machines, which parts to buy and when, what to promise a customer and what to charge. You'll build the models behind those decisions.
• Plan the factory. Schedule orders, panels and machines across our factories for throughput and on-time delivery, and know days ahead when we will run out of work or capacity.
• Model the Grid. The Grid is our factory-scale robot: dozens of movers, gantries, printers and ovens. Model how work flows through it, find the bottlenecks, and tell us what the next machine or change is worth.
• Price and promise. Estimate what an order really costs in labour, machine time and parts, and help set prices and lead times that win work and make money.
• Buy smarter. Decide what parts and consumables to stock, when to order them, and how much risk of a shortage to accept.
• Put it into production. Your models don't live in a spreadsheet: they run every day, feed the planning and quoting systems, and get checked against what actually happened.
What we look for
• A quantitative background in operations research, applied maths, statistics, quantitative finance, economics or a similar field, and a record of models that changed real decisions.
• Optimisation: linear and integer programming, constraint programming, or heuristics, and judgement about when a simple rule beats a solver.
• Simulation and forecasting: building a model of a messy system, calibrating it to data and saying how far to trust it.
• Strong Python and SQL. You write code other people can run and rely on.
• You use coding agents to move faster and take full ownership of what they produce.
• Curiosity about how things are physically made. You'll spend time in our factories in the US and UK.
Manufacturing experience is welcome but not required. If you have priced risk, optimised a portfolio or forecast demand, the problems here will feel familiar.
Stack
• Modelling: Python, OR-Tools, simulation
• Data: PostgreSQL, Snowflake, dbt, Dagster
• Agents: Claude Code and Codex throughout
Location
Remote anywhere, or from our offices in London or Cambridge (UK) if you prefer, with regular visits to our factories in the UK and US.
Pay
UK £80k–£125k · US $125k–$250k, depending on experience, plus equity.
